5 Reasons to Try Addiction Rehab

If you are trying to stop using drugs alone with no outside help it is a difficult task to achieve. In reality, it is usually difficult without professional help because it is so very hard to do this without professional help and some mentoring through the process.

Addictions are extremely destructive and it is better to take advantage of the years of experience and training that the professionals in these centres have, and you will get the help that you need to restore you to full health.

Here are 5 reasons to try addiction rehab:

1. Relationships

When you are using, your relationships with family and friends will deteriorate, and many will distance themselves from you and there are reasons for this:

  • Your behaviour may have become erratic and at best unreliable
  • Some people with drug and alcohol abuse can be violent, others may fear outbursts
  • Some people with addictions steal cash and valuables to feed their habit
  • Your work relationships will deteriorate, as you will often be late for work and unreliable

In life, it is better to be surrounded by people who want the best for us, and that can’t happen when you are in the grip of addiction, so of course relationships will break down. If you get the help that you need, you can usually regain friendships, and save relationships.

2. Getting Back your Health

If you abuse drugs or alcohol you will have health problems as you are regularly putting toxic substances into your body. Your system will only tolerate this for a short time, and then you will see the results of the abuse manifest in brain damage, liver toxicity, dental damage, and many other illnesses.

Once you seek treatment at a professional rehab facility, your body can start to heal from the abuse caused by drugs or alcohol.

The bottom line is that if you don’t seek treatment in a timely fashion, you may reach a stage where you will not be able to be cured but will be forced to live with a chronic and often life-limiting disease.

3. You will Regain Emotional Balance

When you are consuming a large amount of alcohol or drugs, it leads to a chemical imbalance in your body, and your emotional state becomes liable.

Many addicts become seriously depressed, and some end up taking their own lives. If you feel that you are in a cycle of despair it is very important to seek help, as the addiction rehab centre will be able to help you, and will ultimately restore your health and emotional well-being.

While you are undergoing the treatment you will gradually feel able to regain clear and rational thinking and take charge of your life again.

To keep yourself safe, it is often necessary to think about old habits at this time. Certain friends, for example, drinking friends, may have to be sidelined often permanently, as you won’t be able to return to your old ways. In our lives, there are times when we need to get away from toxic people.

4. Save your Career

Addiction can lead to poor work performance, from being late to not being able to attend due to illness. Sometimes serious mistakes are made in the workplace by people who are drug-affected. Some workplaces now do random drug and alcohol testing (football clubs), and if a person tests positive they are often ordered to go to rehab or resign from their position.

Faced with this choice many choose rehab, but before you reach this stage, you should book yourself into an addiction rehab centre. I recently heard an interesting talk from a female lawyer (at a conference) She had been an alcoholic for 10 years, since her school days as she was only 26.

I was transfixed by her story, basically, she studied law, married, had a child while drinking heavily. Her husband left removing the child with him. She didn’t turn up for a court case and got dismissed from her employer the law firm. Then she stayed home in bed drinking until her parents broke into her house, and had her detained under the Mental Health Act.

She was removed to an addiction rehab center under threat that unless she did go, she would not get her daughter back. The second half of the talk was about Rehab, and how after a year she had been able to return to work (a different firm) and had shared custody of her child, her partner didn’t return.

The story of Rehab was fascinating, and one of the best ‘Case Studies’ I have ever heard because she was so articulate. So it is worth attending addiction rehab and getting the help you need and wants before it is too late.

5. Stay out of the Legal System

If you affected by drug addiction, you may have legal problems and could end up in prison for possession, this is not unusual and should be avoided at all costs.

Seasoned addicts often steal to support their habit, and if you are going to make a good recovery deal with your problem early before you end up in front of the Judge.

People who drink heavily often drive, and if you are breathalysed and found over the legal limit, you will be ordered to attend a responsible drinking programme. This could be a sign that you need to attend Rehab, or it may be the wake-up call that you need.

Conclusion

There are actually more than 5 reasons to try addiction rehab, as your life, health, and future career depend on it. When you go down the addiction pathway it is actually very sad for your family, and eventually, your partner and children may walk away.

So it is important to see that you do have a problem and to book into rehab now, while you still have so much to live for, and you still have a good career ahead of you.
